Origins: A close friend of the Hangman's had had her toes hanged by her priest whilst on holiday with him, it happened after a picnic at the Lake District, and the story was recounted back to the Hangman, who decided to build his own Gallows, after reading several books and websites and working out the philosophy behind the hangings (see tab on 'Philosophy of Hangings').
Procedure: The woman arranges an appointment with The Hangman, who duly turns up at her house with the Gallows. In the meantime she will have prepared a Sin Sheet that lists the sins she will be 'hanged' for.
She is then taken out for a Last Supper by the hangman to a nearby restaurant and then both her and the Hangman return home to the Gallows, which are then set up. The Gallows is are simply a long rail/broomstick held up by a chair's back at each end. From the middle of the rail dangles 10 shoelaces, each ending in a noose to hang the toes with. Underneath the nooses is a stool (or "scaffolding") used to rest the feet up, just before the Hanging.
The woman is sat on a chair behind the Gallows.
The Hangman then asks her for Last Requests - these can be:
(i) A last cigarette (ii) A glass of wine (iii) a bar of quality Chocolate (iv) a 5 min head massage
After that she has her hands tied behind her back. She will be seated on her chair throughout. Her boots and stockings are removed, feet tied together, and placed on the stool under the Gallows, whilst the toes are noosed up. Male and female faces may be drawn on the backs of her toes, with a felt pen, to give them a personality. Famous last words are then requested and noted down in the Hangman's Toe Book.
Meanwhile other kinky punishments like Toe Burning and Toe Bludgeoning are offered to the condemned woman before hanging. (See following pages).
The Hangman marks the time on the clock and kicks the stool away from under the feet, to remove the support, in order for the toes to hang.
Whilst the feet are hanging, he may poke and prode the soles, or cane them to provoke an apology from te woman for her sins. The Sin Sheet is then put into a crucible and set alight. This is symbolic of the woman repenting and atoning for her sins so that they should be forgotten. The hanging carries on until 8 out of the 10 toe pads are pale and cold, and then the woman is certified as 'dead', at which point she must loll her head sideways suddenly and poke her tongue out.
In the photo directly above, of a young man being hanged, 7 of the toes are 'dead', meaning the person is almost 'dead'.
The Hangman then signs and dates her soles and releases the body (i.e. the feet) from the Gallows. A reflexology foot massage is given for half an hour, and then a gift of a pair of Scholl exercise sandals is also given as a gift to the newly refreshed person.
And that is it!
